Storm damage repair, starting with an honest look
After a storm your phone rings and trucks show up in the neighborhood. Some of those companies are here for the season and gone after it. We live here.

First 48 hours

If water is coming in, the priority is stopping it, not paperwork. We tarp to keep the inside of your house dry while everything else gets sorted. A tarp is temporary and it buys the weeks that an insurance process can take.
Do not let anyone push you into signing a contract in your driveway the afternoon after a storm. That pressure is the tell. A real roofer will still be there next week.
Documentation is the job
What decides an insurance outcome is evidence. We photograph the hail strikes, the mat fractures, the soft metal dents on vents and flashing, the collateral on gutters and screens, and we date it. That is the package that supports a claim.
Kolt has taken claims that were denied on the first pass, gone back up with a proper photo set, and gotten them reopened and approved.

What actually gets damaged
Hail bruises a shingle by fracturing the mat under the granules. It often does not leak right away, which is why people think they came through fine and then find a problem a year later. Wind lifts and creases shingles at the seal strip. Both are real damage and both are findable if someone knows what to look at.

What to ask any roofer, including us

Ask where their office is and how long they have been in Texas. After a big storm this area fills with crews who follow weather, sell hard for a season and leave. Ask who answers the phone in three years when you have a warranty question.
Ask whether they are replacing pipe boots and flashings or reusing them. Ask what happens if they find rotten decking and what it costs per sheet, so it is not a surprise mid job.
Ask whether they are replacing pipe boots and flashings or reusing them.
And if anyone offers to cover, waive, absorb or rebate your deductible, walk away. That is illegal in Texas and it pulls you into insurance fraud along with them. We will never make that offer, and any company that does is telling you exactly how it operates.
Warranties, and what they actually cover
Ask any roofer to put the workmanship warranty in writing with a term on it, and then ask the question that actually matters, which is whether that company will still exist and answer the phone when you need it.
Manufacturer warranties also have conditions. Enhanced system warranties generally require that a certified contractor install a full system of that manufacturer’s components, not just their shingles with whatever underlayment was cheapest that week. If someone quotes you a fifty year warranty, ask what specifically triggers it and what voids it.
Manufacturer warranties also have conditions.
Ventilation is a common quiet exclusion. An improperly ventilated attic cooks shingles from below, and manufacturers know it, so inadequate ventilation can limit a claim. That is one reason we look at your ventilation as part of the job rather than treating it as an upsell.
Ventilation is half of a roof's lifespan

The most common failure we find is blocked soffit vents. Insulation gets pushed into the eaves during an attic top up and seals off the intake. The ridge vent then has nothing to pull from and the whole system stalls. It is inexpensive to fix and almost nobody looks for it.
When we quote a roof we look at what intake and exhaust you actually have, not just what is visible from the driveway. If the ventilation is undersized we will tell you, and we will explain what correcting it costs, because putting a new roof over a bad ventilation situation just starts the clock over on the same problem.

When it is not working, and it frequently is not, attic temperatures climb far above outside air in a Texas summer. That heat degrades the asphalt in the shingles from underneath, which is why roofs here often fail years before the number on the wrapper. It also drives cooling costs and, in winter, contributes to moisture problems.

Questions about storm damage repair
Should I file a claim before or after an inspection?
Get eyes on the roof first. If there is no real damage, filing accomplishes nothing and puts a claim on your record. We will tell you honestly whether you have something worth filing.
Do you charge for storm inspections?
No. We will come out, get on the roof, and tell you what we see.
How fast can you tarp?
We prioritize active leaks. Call and tell us water is coming in and that moves to the front of the line.
What if my claim gets denied?
A denial is not always the end. Frequently the first inspection was quick or the documentation was thin. We have had claims reopened with a proper photo set. See insurance claims.
Should I use the company that knocked on my door?
Your call, but ask where their office is, how long they have been in Texas, and who handles a warranty call in three years. Storm chasers follow weather and leave. We are based in Haslet and we are not going anywhere.

What people say
From customers
We had a great experience with Seth and his team at Ovation Roofing. They were professional, honest, and very easy to work with throughout the entire process. Communication was clear, the work was done on schedule, and the quality of the roof looks fantastic. It’s refreshing to work with a company that does what they say they’ll do. I would absolutely recommend Ovation Roofing to anyone needing roofing work.
Roof replacement customer
Seth came out and checked on our roof and was super kind, quick and efficient. He was very knowledgeable and thorough with explaining exactly what we needed to do and what the process would look like. I had a lot of questions and he answered all of them and made sure I understood the process. I had another quote from a different company and this was a completely different experience.
